Spring into Summer with These Super Smoothies

As we spring into summer, FoodieFriends look at easy ways to pack in those vitamins and nutrients so everyone can shine with health and vitality, and make the best of themselves.

I find these delicious cool, quick and easy healthy super smoothies are the best way to kick start the day. Keeping these basic principles, you can swap any seasonal fruit or veg you’ve got at home and find your own favourite flavours.

Here are my four favourite Summer Super Smoothies

Super Green Smoothie

Ingredients:
1 banana
100g baby spinach
100g fresh kale
250ml fresh apple juice
1 lime

Method:
1. Peel the banana and cut into chunks and freeze.
2. Once frozen, add the banana, spinach and kale to the liquidiser.
3. Pour in the apple juice.
4. Cut the lime in half and squeeze the lime juice into the liquidiser.
5. Secure the lid and blend until smooth, then serve.

Sunny Sunday Smoothie

Ingredients:
1 carrot
2cm piece of ginger
200g frozen mango
200ml fresh orange juice
1 lemon

Method:
1. Remove the skin from the ginger and finely grate.
2. Peel the carrot, then roughly chop.
3. Add the ginger, carrot and frozen mango to a liquidiser.
4. Pour in the orange juice.
5. Cut the lemon in half and squeeze all the lemon juice into the liquidiser.
6. Secure the lid and blend until smooth, then serve.

Blueberry Bliss Smoothie

Ingredients:
2 pears
150 g frozen blueberries
100 ml fresh apple juice
1 lime

Method:
1. Remove the pear stalks and cut into quarters, removing and discarding the cores.
2. Add the pears and the blueberries to the liquidiser.
3. Pour in the apple juice.

Creamy Caribbean Smoothie

Ingredients:
1 banana
3 tablespoons ground almonds
250 ml milk
1 tablespoon runny honey

Method:
1. Peel the banana and cut into nice big slices, then freeze.
2. Once frozen, add the banana and ground almonds to a liquidiser.
3. Pour in the milk.
4. Drizzle in the honey.
5. Secure the lid and blend until smooth, then serve.
